Hi. My name is AC, and I’m a master procrastinator.
Yes, I do get a LOT done – or, at least, I feel like I do. I can spend hours planning, organizing and thinking about what I want to get done… My bullet journal notebooks (aka planners) are filled with
partially completed to-do lists, ideas, and notes on #allthethings. I can even tell you how, when and why something could, should and will be completed. But the actual act of DOING… well, that’s the hard part.

Ways to Procrastinate
The reason we procrastinate is to avoid doing what we know needs to be done. For whatever reason, in whichever fashion suits us best.
Back in the day, you really only had a handful of ways to procrastinate:
- Sit in front of the TV for hours.
- Go outside.
- Read a book or doodle something.
Nowadays you have seemingly unlimited ways to procrastination. Here are just some of the many ways that I’ve “successfully” wasted time:
- Hours lost on social media (claiming I was doing research),
- Planning my to-do lists (planner junkies, please tell me you can relate!),
- Cleaning has even been a form of procrastination! (But, I’m getting something done, right?)
- Retail therapy (both online and off)
- Taking the umpteenth webinar/program/course on the subject I’m focused on right then.
But the reality is, even though I was taking some sort of action, I wasn’t necessarily doing the right things – those that would truly help me to progress towards my dreams and goals. Therefore, I felt guilty at the end of the day, because even though I’d be tired, I constantly felt like I’d gotten nothing meaningful done.
How to Stop Procrastinating?
That’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? How do I stop procrastinating?
You’ve probably read all the quotes that go something like: “When the pain of change is less the the pain of staying the same… That’s how you stop procrastinating.” That’s true, but sometimes it just turns into a maddening loop of pain.
The answer, I believe, is actually really simple… in fact, it’s so simple that when I asked a friend, who is the queen of getting things done, I was able to answer it myself — before she responded.
Q): My question: How do I get over inaction?
A): Her (our) answer: Get IN action. Period.
Nike got it right: “Just Do It.” Decide. Act. Jump. Get in motion on the one thing that matters most, right now, to move you towards your better tomorrow. The hard part, sometimes, is knowing what matters most to you… What’s really worth your focused, inspired action?
So… How do you know what matters most to you?
By knowing, and accepting who you are. Period. Take the time to figure out what really moves you… What fires you up — both positively and negatively? Then, and only then, will you begin to take action.
You’ll stop wasting time on all those unimportant — often mind-numbing — time-sucks, and start living your best life! (Hint: This is why LOVE yourself is the first step in living your classiest life.)
